“Lost Hope, Failed Desire: Theology as a Discourse on Ruin”
This chapter is based on two papers given at conferences in 2025: a plenary discussion on the state of theology in university education at the annual Loyola-Marquette-SLU Graduate Theology Colloquium (February 2025); and an edited version given at College Theology Society (May 2025). In it, I use the concept and experience of ‘ruins’ to ask where theological education goes next as the discipline appears to be falling to ruin around us.
